Places to eat
Please note that for a lot of places you will need a reservation. Also quite a few restaurants now use time slots :-(
The best place to search for restaurants is Falter, a local viennese weekly paper with a great restaurant database.
Most restaurants will have at least one vegan option, but see below for all-vegan places
Nordbahnviertel
The area around the venue up to the hotel.
- Austria Campus: Business area south to Hauswirtschaft in walking distance
Stuwerviertel
Across Lassallestrasse from the hotel. Used to be a red light district, now mostly gentrified (though there are a few questionable establishments left).
- Vorgartenmarkt: a small market, mostly restaurants now, but there is a farmers market on Saturday
- Mochi Ramen Bar: appearantly the best Ramen; no reserverations, so expect a queue. Very loud on the inside, so better to sit outside
- Chicken Karate: fried chicken, also very good, also by the Mochi people
- Pizzaria Mercato: nice pizza!
- There's also a fish shop selling fried fish
- And an italien place (I haven't been there)
- Stuwer: viennese kitchen, we have the attendees dinner there
- Broesel: Very good, modern, sharing plates; only open in the evening, but probably already fully booked
- Moeslinger: Also viennese
- Reinthaler: same, "cheap" lunch menu
- Maehrischer Spatz: right opposite the hotel
- Wiener Deewaan: 5 vegetarian curries per day, pay as you wish; very basic!
- and probably a bunch more...
Volkert/Alierten-Viertel
- Volkertmarkt: Another small market, also has a bunch of places to eat
- Automat Welt: Next to the market, good viennese kitchen
- Pizza Randale 1020: Nice pizza, Napoli style
Praterstrasse
There are a lot of restaurants here, from cheap to upscale, and a lot in the middle. Some recommendations:
- Gasthaus Hansy: Traditional Viennese
- YGF Hot Pot / Yangguofu Malatang: Select soup and the content from a big selection of stuff (vegetables, lots of tofu, seafood, meat and "weird chinese stuff" you usually don't find). Cost is per weight (min 400g), so make sure to weigh your selection (or you might pay a lot..)
- Pho Mi: Vietnamese, nice
- Praterwirt: meat and beer
- Cucina Itameshi: another Mochi project, italian-japanese fusion, not cheap and hard to get a place
- Gaia Kitchen. Vegan Kebab etc
- at the other end of Praterstrasse (near Nestroyplatz) there are a bunch of very nice but not cheap places:
