Tap Water, Food Safety

The tap water is very drinkable, quite nice and cleaner than bottled water. Food hygiene is very strict, and all restaurants are required to have correct allergen labels.

Internet Access

  • Mobile data: Norway is a part of the EEA, so your EU data plan can be used. Local SIM cards can be bought at 7-11/Narvesen, but you must register your Passport with the operator to have it enabled. This can take 24 hours.
  • Public Wifi: is everywhere, most cafes, trains and public places provide it (use a vpn and dnscrypt).

Sundays

Most shops are closed on Sundays.

Paying for Things

Credit cards (VISA/MC) are accepted pretty much everywhere without minimums or extra charges. Make sure you have your pin number handy, tell the cashier if you do not have a pin number on your card. Cash is rarely used.

Buying Alcohol

(TLDR; buy at the duty free at OSL on arrival)
Norway has some of the highest alcohol prices in the world, and operate quite strict rules on consumption.

  • Beer can be bought in supermarkets until 18:00 weekdays, and 16:00 on Saturdays, not on Sundays. This is strictly enforced by the POS system at the store.
  • Wine and spirits can only be bought at the government run wine monopoly called Vinmonopolet.
  • Bars serve drinks until 03:00.
